Restore/Reset/Repair Context Menu, HEEEEELP!!!! RRS feed

  • Question

  • Like most, I've installed many programs, unfortunately, some programs create unwanted context menu entries.

I have searched for discussions and I have downloaded context menu related software.
Most only ADD stuff and are useless in this scenario.

Some recommend using the registry but there are too many entries available.
Isn't there a way to reset my context menu?
    Please HELP :(

  • You can download ShellExView from here: http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/shexview.html, sort the list by "Context menu handlers" type, and disable any entry that you don't want to see in your context menu.

  • Hi,

I would like to verify if you want to delete the menu which you titled. If so, I would like you to know only third party software context menus can be modified.

Now, You have three ways to remove VLC entries.

    1. Delete following registries.

    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\Shell\AddToPlaylistVLC

    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\Shell\PlayWithVLC

    2. Reinstall VLC software, under Choose components section, select Custom, uncheck the Context Menus in the list.

    3. Use ShellExView.

    a.     Download ShellExView v1.41 from the following link http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/shexview.zip

Please Note: The third-party product discussed here is manufactured by a company that is independent of Microsoft. We make no warranty, implied or otherwise, regarding this product's performance or reliability.

    b.     Right-click the "shexview.zip" file, select "Extract All", the Extraction Wizard will prompt.

    c.     Click Next, input "C:\ShellExView" (without the quotation marks) in the "Files will be extracted to this directory" textbox.

    d.     Click Next and click Finnish.

    e.     Open the "C:\ShellExView" folder and double-click the "shexview.exe" file. It will scan the registry for all the shell extensions.

    f.     Select all the non-Microsoft extensions in pink by press "Ctrl" in the keyboard.

    g.     Click the "Disable Selected Items" on the toolbar and click Yes.

    h.     Restart your computer and check if the issue is resolved.

    Best Regards,

    Niki
