I suppose this may not be the best place for this question. However, I couldn't find a better place. (let me know if you know of one)

I've been running Office 2007 betas for a while under Windows XP and have had no real issues. Recently, I upgraded a comptuer to the Enterprise version of Vista (upgrade from XP). Now, after uninstalling and re-installing Office 2007, I get an error when I try to open Word: "Microsoft Office Word has stopped working".

    Here are the problem Details:

    Problem signature:
    Problem Event Name: APPCRASH
    Application Name: WINWORD.EXE

I had the exact same problem. I tried just about everything from Diagnostics to uninstalling MS Office 2007 with no success. What did it for me was deleting the user profile that was giving me the problem. I'm a member of  a domain so I don't know how that would defer if you're not.

    - right click COMPUTER

    - Click Advanced System Settings (Continue)

    - User Profile (Settings)

    - Cick on the profile that is crashing

By the way make sure to back up you data from the profile you wish to delete.

    Did that help?

    Thanks,

    Pocoloco

  • after a month of great frustration, I think I've solved the problem.

the culprits are the pdf add-ins installed by OmniPage Pro 15.

(and if you don't have this specific program, I'd remove other add-ins to see if they are culprits too.)

    a. from start menu go to pdf converter assistant==>file==>preferences==>uncheck "word" "excel" etc.

    b. go to control panel==>user account control==>turn off

    c. reboot

    d. from start menu search type run and then copy the following command to command line box in order to remove pdf add-ins from office (keep the quotes): substitute H: with your vista volume.

    regsvr32 /u "H:\Program Files\ScanSoft\PDF Create 4\PDF Driver\OfficeAddIn\ZnWordAddIn.dll"

    e. restore user account control, if you wish.

    BINGO!

  • You are my private hero ofthe day!

Indeed, I solved my ntdll.dll problem by simply changing the default printer (from PDFxxx) to some other bla, whatever.

Play around with the printer and you might have a good chance to solve ntdll issues.

  • Same problem here. Could not start Word 2007 because of error "Microsoft Word has stopped working". Repair or re-install did not fix the issue.

Solved by changing the default printer (regular, not pdf) to something else. Works like a charm.

  • I have the same problem but I do not have any PDF converters that are set as default printer. I took the default printer off and set it to a different printer. It is still not working. Any help will be appreciated. It worked fine till yesterday, I did not add any new add-ins.

  • I have been having problems with word since this morning, mainly its to do with the mouse buttons though. It wont let me highlight any part of text, or right click on any of the text that I've typed in a document. However in other programs like Internet Explorer and Powerpoint it will work just fine. Also when I go to open documents I've saved, it just won't open them.  Please help!

  • To resolve this problem, delete the HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Word\Data registry subkey. To do this, follow these steps:
    Exit all Office programs.
Click Start , type regedit in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER.
If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Continue.
Locate and then click the following registry subkey:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Word\Data
On the Edit menu, click Delete, and then click Yes.
    Exit Registry Editor.
    Restart Word

deleting printers didnt wor for me either. this works

  • I had the same problem. I am running windows vista and office 2007. Suddenly I found that when I open a .doc (not .docx) file, I can't move my cursor using mouse. I had to use only keyboard to move the cursor. And every time I close the Word, it shows me an error. Then I looked into the vista's 'Problem Reports and Solutions' window. Under Microsoft Office Word, I see the errors are listed. Double clicking on any of those, helped me to find out the real problem. Which was something like this:

    Problem signature
    Problem Event Name:       APPCRASH
    Application Name:            WINWORD.EXE
    Application Version:         12.0.4518.1014
    Application Timestamp:    45428028

    Fault Module Timestamp: 46cf3a4b
    Exception Code:             c0000005
    Exception Offset:            000397d6
    OS Version:                   6.0.6002.2.2.0.256.1
    Locale ID:                     1033

    Extra information about the problem
    LCID:    1033
    Brand:   Office12Crash
    skulcid:  1033

I tried in many ways including reinstalling the office package to solve this problem. Nothing worked for me. Finally I got the solution.

    Solution:

    1. Close your Word program
    2. Go here from your regedit HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Word\
    3. Delete the 'Data' key

Hope, your problem will be solved.

  • Monirul,

Thank you!  I've been working on this problem for 15 hours straight before I found your suggestion.  Worked like a charm!

    Friday, February 12, 2010 7:45 AM
  • I've been having this problem with Window 7 and Office 2007.  Every time try to save a file in any of the applications (word, excel, etc), get the "APPCRASH" error.  Been to every suggestion, changed printers, changed registry, changec compatibility, file locations, EVERY suggestion.  Still cannot save a file. Very first aggrevation - Spent 2 hours on a very important project estimate, to have it crash and loose everything when I tried to save it.

FINALLY a solution.  Uninstall Office 2007, and go back to the old dependable Office 2003, problem solved.  I've wasted a good 30 hours on this problem, and have never spent this much time trying to find a solution, and I've been using Office since '95. Did like the great features of Office 2007 though, but I just don't have time for the nonsense.  Seems like Windows7 (pro 64 bit), and Office 2007 (small business) could play well together [right out of the box, without aggrevation].  I'm a business, and I don't have time for this.

    OK, venting over.  Whew.

p.s.  I'll leave my options open if a real, viable solution comes along for this problem.

  • This is the answer.... thanx!

  • I had the same problem with Word 2010. Try to save something than it crash.

I got a new printer Canon Pixma MX512 it crash there too.

I Change It on my Canon MX512 or MX510 setup to...

Default:  MX510 Series XPS printer.... insteady the other one MX510 XPS Writer. THe XPS writer does not work to print.

I have no problems now, I can save and printer now.

Canwindsor            Try the XPS on your computer without XPS Writer
