Unable to delete VPN connection

    Question

  • Hi,

I've created a VPN connection (PPTP) and now want to delete it, but can't seem to find a way to delete it.

I've found the window described in http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7itpronetworking/thread/8d742331-eb89-436d-b4df-5a36e3324a82?prof=required  but that particular VPN does not show up in that window. Other VPN connections do show and can be removed from there.

So, this connection does show up in the popup I get when clicking on the wifi signal strength thingy in the tray, but I can't do anything with it. It doesn't connect (nothing happens) and I also can't see its Properties (also, nothing happens.)

Have searched the registry for the exact name of the VPN and found two occurences, one in a subkey of HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\NetworkList\Profiles and one in a subkey of HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\NetworkList\Signatures.

    Hi,

Also remove the following VPN registry keys:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\Connections

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\RemoteAccess\Profile\

Meanwhile, if you have installed any VPN Client software, please also clear them.

    Thanks,

    Novak

  • Have you tried going to Control Panel > All Control Panel Items > Network and Sharing Center > Change adapter settings (in the left pane) and delete the one you don't want?

  • This particular VPN connection did not show up in that window. I had to remove some keys from the registry :(

  • After removing those registry entries and rebooting that VPN connection has disappeared from the list. Thanks!

I still think it would be a sensible feature to add "Remove" to the right-click context menu in that tray popup. It's where I expect it would be.
