Windows 8 connecting to Server 2003 via peer-to-peer RRS feed

  • Pregunta

  • I have a Windows 8 Pro computer.  On a peer-to-peer network, I can connect to the other Windows 7 computers but am unable to connect to a Windows Server 2003 computer.  The Server 2003 computer also cannot connect to the Windows 8 computer.  I know the network is available since I can ping the Server 2003 computer from the Windows 8 computer and in fact I can remote desktop into the Server 2003 computer from the Windows 8 computer.  I just cannot file share with it.

    Any help would be appreciated.

Respuestas

  • In most cases, system error 53 is firewall issue or name resolution issue. Since you can't ping the IP address, it could be the firewall or 3rd party security software.

  • It could be permission issue. If you run net view \\server2003ipaddress, what's the system error?

  • Try to change the following registry for a test.

    1. Press Win+R to call Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
    2. Locate and then double-click the following registry subkey:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa

    1. On the right side, double-click restrictanonymous.
    2. Make sure that the value in the Value data box is set to 0, and then click OK.
    3. Close Registry Editor, restart the computer to check the result.

  • Thanks for your reply.  When I run NET VIEW from the Windows 8 machine with the Server 2003 machine IP address or from the Server 2003 machine with the Windows 8 IP address, I get

    System Error 53

    Network Path was Not Found

However, on the Windows 8 machine I can PING the Server 2003 IP address; but when I try to PING the Windows 8 machine from the Server 2003 machine, I get a timeout.

    Thanks,

    Marie

  • Thanks for your reply.  On both machines, the restrictanonymous is set to 0.  Any other suggestions?
