when i tried to extract the windows xp sp3 setup file it gave me the following error EXTRACTION FAILED, THE FILE IS CORRUPT. the file which i noted while extraction was the i386\vbscript.dll file
what is going on with microsoft. i have downloaded both the xp sp3 debug file of 344 mb and also xp sp executable file two times but still got the same error. while the debug file extracted with no problem but the exe file gave me the file corrupt error. i also disabled avast antivirus but the extractor still gave me that shit error. i am using win xp sp2. I am a regular net user.

I think you best download the files once again. Clear you internet temporary files before doing so. Try to ensure you connection is stable during the download. If working wireless, consider working wired or moving closer to the access point.

I had this a few times, when I looked at the CD I had put it on there was a few scratches. Some CD drives are very sensitive. I also had this issue with a copy of the SP3 file on the network store, this one I knew there was no issues but... we are talking about extracting an large file over a network so noise was likely the problem.
In the end the most efficient method was make sure the file was present on the Hard Drive before running it.
However, I have spoken with colleague in the past who say they had this issue when never using a CD or extracting from a network store. The corruption would occur on every PC. They told me they had either:
1) Redownload because the file was genuinly corrupted, or;
2) Disable the Anti-Virus/Firewall software as that may have been blocking some files being extracted.
The first part of my post is quite a long winded processes, you are best following 1) and 2) to get your SP3 package working. I am not sure Microsoft is the problem here but technology itself.
