windows server 2008 o windows 7

  • Can I install Windows server 2008 trial version on my Windows 7 machine (32bit)?  Does it mean that I will have two operating system running at the same time once the trial version is installed?  How do I switch between two OS?  Also, it looks like the Windows server 2008 R2 won't work on my machine since it runs on a 64bit machine.  Is it correct?  Thank you.

  • You have to use a virtualization software like Microsoft Virtual PC 2007 SP1 ( or Oracle VirtualBox ( to create a virtual machine in which you will install Windows Server 2008 R2.
Your CPU must support 64 bit operating systems (i.e. you need to have a 64 bit processor), so tou have to check for such a support in the CPU's documentation.

  • That's incorrect for VPC2007, as it does not support and never has supported 64bit OSes.

Windows 2008 will work on VPC2007 (not supported on Windows 7) or Windows VPC.

  • Windows server 2008 R2 is a 64 bit version. and it cant be installed on 32- bit OS. And if you want to install it on Virtual Machine then you can use VMWARE workstation-10 on Windows 7 32-bit. If your processor supports 64- bit, then there is no problem for you to install Windows 2008 R2 using Workstation on a 32- bit Windows 7. But you might have atleast 2 - 4 GB of Ram. As for 64- bit Operating System 2 GB is Minimum.

  • Hello,

If you want to Install windows2008R2 then you need a x64 architecture processor. Then you need a 3rd party

visualization software like Oracle Virtual Box. Inside the virtual box yes you can  install multiple OS and switch between them no issues at all. Good luck.
