W10 1703 update fail RRS feed

  • שאלה

  • I am sorry if this is in the wrong forum, if so could the moderators please move it the appropriate one.

My PC repeatedly downloads the 1703 update and then fails to install with the message "Installation Failure: Windows failed to install the following update with error 0x8024200D: Feature update to Windows 10, version 1703.".

It started a month or so ago with 1703 and then stopped. This week it started trying 1709 with the same result and has now gone back to trying 1703.

The PC is currently running 1607, 14393.1884

I also notice that it has successfully installed "Update for Windows 10 Version 1607 for x64-based Systems (KB4023057)" 5 times. Is this normal to repeat installation?

I have tried the trouble shooter multiple times, deleted the contents of the update folder, cleans boots, disabling Norton and downloading with windows 10 update assistant.

My internet is very slow so each download takes about 8 hours and stops the use of the internet for everyone else!

I need a way of fixing it or stopping it updating as it is preventing me using my PC .

    Thanks

    Neil

  • Hello,

Try downloading Windows 10 V1709 ISO file and upgrade using it:

  • Hi,

I have finally managed to downloaded the ISO. It went through the update and then failed with following error message

    "0xC1900101 - 0x30018

The installation failed in the FIRST_BOOT phase with an error during SYSPREP operation"

    Any ideas?

    Thanks

    Neil

  • Hi Neil,

This error is typically occurring during the Windows 10 upgrade. If you see a failure c1900101 x300xx, it means we failed during this phase. The most common failure is x30018, which generally means a driver crashed when we loaded it for the first time.

    Press Windows key + X

    Click Command Prompt (Admin)

    Type the following command:

    rundll32.exe pnpclean.dll,RunDLL_PnpClean /DRIVERS /MAXCLEAN

Hit Enter on your keyboard and restart. Then try upgrading again.

If the issue still insists, I suggest that you could disable or uninstall your wireless network card to check. You could follow the steps below to check error when upgrading to Windows 10: 0xC1900101 – 0x30018.

Hope it will be helpful to you

  • Hi,

I had tried the MAXCLEAN but it hadn't helped but I did it again.

I also uninstalled Norton, removed the last of the USB externals and removed the USB card.

It is now at 1709 16299.15.

An driver error came up with xfast LAN.

Windows now shows more updats including one to 1709. you would have thought that the ISO file would be the latest version.

Strangely when I start the PC I have to enter my password twice before I get in. Maybe this will be fixed with the update if it works.

    Thank you for your help.

  • Now updated to 1709 16299.64.

Double sign in solved by switching off "use my sign-in info to automatically finish setting up my device after an update or restart" in accounts
