How to use Performance Monitor to analyze what a specific desktop application is doing.? RRS feed

  • Pertanyaan

  • Is it possible to use Performance Monitor to monitor a specific desktop app and see what it is doing? If so how might I setup PM to accomplish this? Would Process Monitor be a better tool in this case, to analyze what a desktop app is doing, in terms of latency?

what about Performance Recorder or Performance Analyzer? Can they be used in this situation?

Any pointers to possible solutions will be appreciated.

    TIA

  • Hi rocketjetz.

It depends on what you want to monitor and what you mean when you talk about "latency" (e.g.: disk, network).
The Windows Performance Monitor is a tool that administrators can use to examine how programs running on their computers affect the computer's performance; Process Monitor looks at and displays in real time the file system, registry and network activity.
Both of them could be useful, but it still depends on the exact metrics you need to measure: there are many counters available in Performance Monitor.

    Bye.

  • Hi,

Windows Performance Recorder can be used collect different counts for apps, you can select the count you want:

It's contains more details than Performance monitor and process monitor.

    Best regards,
