Replica is in consistent. unable to take backup of Database RRS feed

  • Domanda

  • Affected area: Mailbox Database 1929457494
    Occurred since: 12/7/2018 12:34:44 PM
Description: The replica of Exchange Mailbox Database Mailbox Database 1929457494 on server is inconsistent with the protected data source. All protection activities for data source will fail until the replica is synchronized with consistency check. You can recover data from existing recovery points, but new recovery points cannot be created until the replica is consistent.

For SharePoint farm, recovery points will continue getting created with the databases that are consistent. To backup inconsistent databases, run a consistency check on the farm. (ID 3106)

  • Hello Mohsin!

As the error detail states, it looks like you have insufficient storage space:

(ID 30115 Details: VssError:Insufficient storage available to create either the shadow copy storage file or other shadow copy data. (0x8004231F))

How does your disks look like under the Management tab in DPM? Could you provide a screenshot if possible?

    Best regards,
    Leon

  • Hello,

Find requested screen shot. Insufficient storage space is on dpm server or on exchange database server?

    venerdì 7 dicembre 2018 09:00
  • Okay the storage space looks fine, how does the disk space on the protected computer (in your case the Exchange Mailbox database server) look like?

Try running the following command in an elevated Command Prompt on the protected computer:

    Vssadmin list shadowstorage

  • The Shadow Copy Service is allocated limited amount of space which is not sufficient for the creation of a snap.

    Try the following:

    • Right click the volume (in my case E:) in disk management.
    • Go to the Shadow Copies-tab and located the volume (still E:) in the "Select a volume"list.
    • Press settings and increase the "Maximum size:" or configure it with "No limit:"
    • Press OK in the Settings-window and re run your job from the DPM-console

  • Currently c drive is of 558 Gb. Exchange database log size which I need to backup is on C drive and its size is 144 Gb. Free disk space on C is 166 Gb. So how much size is required in order for dpm to initiate the backup successfully. Currently Shadow copy limit is 57mb.

  • Select the C: disk in your case and set to no limit and then try running a backup.

  • Hmm.  but I want to understand how much space it will need to complete this backup.

  • It is unfortunately difficult to know exactly how much space it will require.

If you don't want to set the limit to "no limit", then you can perform one of the tasks below:

    Note:
All of these commands needs to be run in an elevated Command Prompt!

    - Clean some of the data on the affected drive.

    - Link the creation of snapshots for a volume with insufficient disk space to a different disk:

    vssadmin Resize ShadowStorage /For=C: /On=X: /MaxSize=25%

(X: is the new drive letter of the disk where you want to move your shadow copies)

    - If a move is not possible, then you can clear the shadow copy space:

    vssadmin Delete Shadows /All /Quiet

    vssadmin Resize ShadowStorage /For=C: /On=C: /MaxSize=25%
