Installing windows 7 over a non-genuine copy.

  • I recently had the message 'This copy of windows is not genuine' appear in the bottom corner of my desktop. Also the related pop-ups. i tried to activate etc but am unable to get it to work. I have now been and brought windows 7 home premium and am about to install it. Is there anything i should know or do before i start? i have backed up all my important documents etc.

    Thanks Steve

  • Hi,

Where did you get the key which is used to activate desktop with the error message?

Is the new Windows 7 home premiun genuine? If so, as you have backed up the data, I suggest perform a clean install by formatting the hard driver when installing.
