Manually check for updates RRS feed

  • 質問

  • wsus is setup and configured and deployed via GPO.  client servers are unable to check manually for updates using Windows Updates.  Management wants this to be an option.  currently this feature is blocked out by GPO and I cannot figure out which policy object is blocking it.  The "remove all access to windows updates" policy object has not been changed.

  • Choose 2 - Notify for download and auto install option under Configure Automatic Updates Group Policy setting.

Under Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Windows update\Configure Automatic Updates, you must select one of the four options:

2 - Notify for download and auto install - When Windows finds updates that apply to this device, users will be notified that updates are ready to be downloaded. After going to Settings > Update & security > Windows Update, users can download and install any available updates.

  • That is what the policy is already set to.  When we try to check for updates, we still get "Windows Updates can't check for updates because settings on this PC are controlled by your system administrator"

  • Hi Jeg,

According to your description, my understanding:

    1. If you need to enable online check for Microsoft Update on the client, make sure the following Group Policy is configured:

      [Windows Components > Windows Update]
      - "Do not connect to any Windows Update Internet locations" Adjusted to Non configured.

[System > Internet Communication Management > Internet Communication settings]
      - "Turn off access to all Windows Update features" Adjusted to Non configured.

    2. If you need to allow non-admin users to perform update checks and installations manually, consider adjusting the following group policies:

      [Windows Components > Windows Update]
      - "Allow non-administrators to receive update notifications" Adjusted to Enabled.

Hope the above can help you.

    Regards,
    Yic

  • All of these policy objects are already set that way.  Still unable to manually check for updates.

  • Hi Jeg,

In the setting of these clients you mentioned, is it still not possible to see the option of networking check?

If so, consider providing Group Policy details for these clients to facilitate subsequent analysis of the problem.

  • Run below command in a cmd

    gpresult /r

    rsop.msc

Then check the applied group policies there..

    refer below,

Then remove the device from the OU which GPO linked already
