Exchange 2007 new send connector

Hi,
Currently we are having an Exchange 2007 edge server role to do SPAM filtering and we are planning to replace this server with another in house anti-spam solution.
We have installed a trial version of it and the issue is once we create a new send connector in HUB/CAS server and set the IP of the server which has installed new Anti-SPAM solution as the smart host the outbound email is not working. Mails are not flowing through either Edge server or new Anti-SPAM server. As soon as i delete the new connector its start working. We required to send and test outbound email through the new solution without interrupting the email flow. Appreciate your suggestions to solve this problem.
Thank you and regards,
Kanishka.

Okay, first if you're going to use an antispam server, you might consider eliminating the Edge server from the flow since it won't be adding any value and it'll be easier to remove it. That is, you should point outbound mail to the antispam server, not through Edge Transport.
Make sure your antispam server is properly configured to accept mail from your Exchange server. These usually require you to enter the IP address of your own servers to identify them as such. Use telnet to port 25 to verify that you can send mail. You can make a send connector for a specific address space to test outbound mail through the antispam device without impacting your regular mail flow.

Hi,
Before we remove the edge server we need to test the product. Can't we do the testing while keeping the edge server and remove it later after successful testing.
IP is added to antispam server and also possible to telnet and send emails.
Connector settings are as below
- Address space - *
- Smart hosts
- We have two hub transport servers and one edge server, when selecting the source server is it enough to add only the two transport servers or do i have to add the edge server as well.

Kanishka.

Yes, you can using the technique I described in my post. Create a send connector for a specific domain that doesn't go through the Edge server.

Thank you for the quick response.
What should be the cost of the new connector and if my new connector address space is "abc.com" and when i send an mail to it will it definitely go through the new connector or would it try to go through the connector which has address space "*'. How does it work?
