Large print server High CPU usage - Windows 2016 RRS feed

  • Hi!

    I´m having problems with CPU use on migrated print server from 2008 R2 to 2016, with no print jobs running

    Driver Lexmark UDP V2.14 or V2.14.1 for all 1100 printers

    spoolsv.exe process has multiple threads as example.

  • Sometimes Windows update fix this type of issues as per my experience.

    Install latest patches on the server and install latest printer driver.

    Then check the status

  • Hi,

    Please make sure you have the latest printer drivers for your printer.

    Also, let’s check if any print file stuck in your spool folder. Please refer to the following operations.

    1. Click Start-> Windows Administrative Tools-> Services.
    2. Scroll down the list of services for the Print Spooler.
    3. Right click Print Spooler and click Stop.
    4. Then open This PC.
    5. Follow the path: C:\WINDOWS\system32\spool\PRINTERS. That contains spool files with the .shd and .shl extensions . You may delete the contents of this folder if any.
    6. Delete all of the files inside of this folder.
    7. Then Restart the spooler service.

    Then check the issue.

  • Same on Windows 2019 (1809.17763.379) , after install all printers spoolsv.exe process take all CPU
