Out of Office works after couple of hours in Outlook RRS feed

  • Pergunta

  • Hi

I've received many notifications about out of office in Outlook 2010. My environment is Exchange 2010 SP3.

Many users set their out of office message, set rules and they notify me that it isn't working.

When I check it is true. Nothing appear in my Outlook tip and rule doesn't work when I send message to this person.

    After some time it works.

I don't know why this isn't works fine.

What I could test or check to resolve this issue?

    Thanks for replys

    Pit

  • Hi Pit,

There exist a delay on mail tip is a normal phenomenon.

About the OOF doesn't working immediately, based on your description, I guess this is may related with network issue, you can take steps below to narrow down it:

    1. Try to enable OOF directly without OOF rule, if it could works immediately, this phenomenon may related with the rule that you used.

    2. If it is still the same phenomenon when enable OOF directly, this phenomenon may related with Network. I would suggest you try to enable OOF from OWA. If it could work within a short time, we can basically confirm this phenomenon is caused by network.

  • Hi Kyle

    Thanks for answer.

I tried set the OOF in OWA without any rule and the result is the same - no tip in Outlook.

    When I run command:

    Test-OutlookWebServices user@domain.com

    i received:

    RunspaceId : xxx-xxx-x-xx-x-x-xx-x-x
    Id         : 1113
    Type       : Error
Message    : When contacting https://server/ews/exchange.asmx received the error The underlying connection was closed: Could not establish trust relationship for the SSL/TLS secure channel.

We have also 2 Public Folder Database in our environment.

    Regards

As I said before: It is a normal behavior that there exist a delay on mail tip.

After you enable OOF from OWA, then other mailbox send email to you in a short time, whether is this mailbox could receive OOF?

  • Thanks for answers

I undestarstand that there exist a delay on mail tip. But I think no 3-4 hours.

This is the delay when I set OOF by Outlook. Its not depend on the rules set in OOF or not.

What is probably reason of this delay?

I check in OWA and there is also the delay.

Maybe the mailbox servers have no enough time to do over again every mailbox with OOF ?

What service is responsible for OOF?

    Regards

    Pit

  • OOF is controlled by EWS services. Based on your description, since it could works after waiting a while, it means there doesn't exist issue with EWS itself.

So, I think it may related with those two side:

    1. Your Exchange server is unstable, service sometimes ok and sometime down. If your Exchange server could accessed from the Internet, you can use this tool to test EWS for your Exchange server.

    2. There exist intermediate equipment in your organization which delay the process.
