  • Hi Team,

    I am having the same issue as described by pctek3050 in his question. I have followed the suggestion posted in the response as below.

    1. Stop “Microsoft Exchange Search” service
    2. Add those .merge files to the original location’
    3. Then restart “Microsoft Exchange Search” service

    The files starting piling up again. please share how to shrink / delete these files or schedule restart is requried

    What's the detailed version of your Exchange 2013?

    Do you have a very large .merge file for each database?

    How much space does the part.000000xx.merge folder take? What about the size of that database?

    The suggestion you mentioned is used to put .merge folder back to the original location if renaming or moving it to other places causes some issues. 

    .merge folder is related to Exchange search index, we cannot delete it directly. In general, it shouldn't grow more than 20% of the database size. If it's size is smaller than 20% of the db size, we suggest to leave them there. For your reference: Exchange 2013 Sizing Cheat Sheet (Part 1).
