Slow Laptop / Desktop Logons Deploying Printers via Group Policy - Please help RRS feed

    We are having intermittent slow laptop and desktop logons for users across our estate. Citrix users using a server 2008 desktop are unaffected. When I drill into the Group Policy event logs it is clear that it is the Group Policy Printers Extension policy processing which is taking the longest time to process, sometimes up to half an hour! The printers are mapped using item level targeting against AD groups so printers are mapped to users depending on what groups they are in. In the GPO they are under User Configuration - Preferences - Windows Settings - Control Panel Settings - Printers.  I have tried some of the tick boxes on the item level targeting ("Stop processing items in this extension if an error occurs" and "Apply once and do not reapply") in the hope that this would fix the issue but it hasn't helped. I have tried every hotfix I can find to correct Group Policy application issues none of which make any difference.

    Can anyone think of anything I can do here?? Some users are getting half an hour logons which is completely unacceptable.

    Are there any ports that Printers Extension Processing Uses I should check?

    Is there anything I can do to the way the printers are mapped to help this? If I map using User Configuration - Policies - Windows Settings - Deployed Printers instead of the above are these deployed in a different way?

    If I remove users from all printer groups Group Policy Printers Extension processing seems to still apply. Is there anyway I can disable this and just map the printers locally for the Users?
