Windows 8 RTM activation RRS feed

  • Hi there,

    On both the Release Preview and now the RTM I installed fresh from TechNet this morning, have encountered activation issues.

    I put my TechNet product key upon installation and all was fine, when I checked the activation status a few hours ago - Windows was activated. Tonight my action center says that Windows is now not activated, when I click to do so I get the following error:

    Unable to find detailed error description
    Unknown facility code of:0x1000 (4096L)
    Facility error: 0x10 (16L)

    I have read instructions to do the following:

    • open CMD as admin
    • type slmgr /upk
    • then type slmgr /ipk XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX

    I can do this but I am worried that if this keeps happening I will run out of activations with this product key - so I am a bit worried about it.

    Is this the only solution? If I need to do this on a regular basis, am I at risk at my product key being blocked?
