  • Do you need to physically bind the metadata to the video file (example: insert a custom box to an MP4 file)? Or do you need to associate the metadata (in an XML file for example) with the video/audio file in the Asset you are creating?

    You can do either of the above during Asset creation.

    However, once you send the above asset through a media processor such as Windows Azure Media Encoder or Windows Azure Media Packager, the resultant *output* asset will not contain the metadata. You'd have to edit the output asset (manageable if your metadata is in a separate file)

    About maintaining your metadata in a table (outside of Media Services) and simply adding a the row key into the AlternateId field of the IAsset object in Media Services.

    This design pattern provides a much more robust, scalable and extensible metadata layer.
