Upgrade Server 2008 Standard to Server 2008 R2? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Quick question here as I can't seem to find ANY legitimate documentation about this process online.  I have a Window Server 2008 Standard x64 system that I am wanting to UPGRADE (not a clean install) to Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard x64.  Does anyone know if this is possible?  The only role this server is playing is it acts as a downstream replica server for WSUS to supply Windows updates and patches to machines.  It plays no other roles what so ever.  Can I just do an inplace upgrade or do I have to do a clean install?  I'm aware of the license and I have purchased 4 additional R2 standard license so I'm covered there, just need to know if its possible without data loss?  Thanks
