I had 2 servers successfully emailing task manager notifications of backups that suddenly stopped working. One stopped working immediately after introducing another 2008 DC into the domain. The error code reported is 2147746321 which I found means "invalid address". I know the sender, recipient and server info is correct, and I have 3 different mail servers I can use to send through. Two external SMTP servers give the above code and trying through my exchange server gives me a 2147746323 code. Manually sending SMTP email with telnet commands from this server through all 3 SMTP servers succeed. Why would it stop working suddenly and how can I fix it?
According to your description, I understand that your server was not able to send email form Task Manager with error code 2147746321.
To narrow down the issue, please confirm the following information:
1. Does the Exchange server allow anonymous relay to send email? 2. Ensure the credentials used for the SMTP authentication need to be the same credentials that are used to execute the task. This means that the same account must have privileges on both machines to send the email.
