Computer account getting disappeared RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

In our company we have 11 DCs across multiple locations. And we have scheduled the replication during night time due to the limitation of bandwidth.

If we need to attach a new machine to the domain and there is already a computer object with the same name existing, we will remove the old computer object first and attach new one. This is happening often when we replace user's machine with new one. But when we check in AD on next day, new computer object which we added on previous day will not be there. We have no idea how this is happening. We suspect this is happening after AD replication during night time. This computer will not be there even in recycle bin. But we can restore the computer object which we removed manually before attaching the new computer.

Can anyone please give me an answer on this?

  • Hi Shanif,
Please enable auditing in the AD, you can track the deletion of the computer account deletion. You could refer to the following article to get more information:
Tracing down user and computer account deletion in Active Directory
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/abizerh/archive/2010/05/27/tracing-down-user-and-computer-account-deletion-in-active-directory.aspx
After enabling auditing, when a computer account is deleted, and event will be logged with information of who/when deletes the computer.
