  • Hi,

As Windows 7 is out of support since last month, we would recommend to upgrade your system to Windows 10 system.

  • Hi Eng Amjad,

    I'd like to confirm:
    1) What does "external laptop size HDD (western digital)" mean?
"laptop size" -- 2.5" form factor?
    2) Does the external HDD have ATA/IDE interface, or SATA interface?
    3) Do you connect the external HDD to your PC via an adapter (ATA or SATA <--> USB)?
I hope you will provide more detailed hardware information.

  • IDE is retired in Windows OS,but you can still use IDE storage drives.Best bet, update the storage MB controller,Intel based MBs use Intel Matrix storage drivers/software.Go to youre pc mfg/pc model/downloads,or intel.com/support,downloads,browse for downloads, edit storage...Also,as Intel says, after the OS install, the Chipset driver/software is 1st installation, this lets the OS run USB/Video/Audio/etc...

  • Hi Eng Amjad,

The picture you provided does not give me any clue about the HDD enclosure.

It shows a manufacturer or brand of "TOSHIBA".  I suppose it would built-in enclosure specially made for Toshiba computers.
    1) How and where did you get it?
    2) Where is a USB port on the enclosure?
(Please provide a picture: a USB cable is connected to the enclosure.)

  • Hi Eng Amjad,

According to your photo, the enclosure has a port for USB Mini Type-B (female). I can know nothing except that.

Please consult the computer hardware shop and ask if it can work on Windows 7 and what driver is needed.

    -------- ignore this -----------
If this is not possible, I recommend to purchase an external HDD case for 2.5" drive.

I recommend to purchase an IDE-USB adapter.

  • Hi,

I guess supplied power by USB bus is insufficient for the drive.
Try to use other USB ports and to disconnect unused USB devices.
