    Question

  • Hello,

    I manage a WSUS on a Windows Server 2003 but i dont have an AD, i manage my clients (Windows 2000 and Windows XP) with gpedit.msc.

    Configuration with registry key is :

    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Installer]
    "EnableAdminTSRemote"=dword:00000001
    "AllowLockdownPatch"=dword:00000001
    "DisableLUAPatching"=dword:00000000
    "DisablePatch"=dword:00000000

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate]
    "AcceptTrustedPublisherCerts"=dword:00000001
    "ElevateNonAdmins"=dword:00000001
    "WUServer"="XXX"
    "WUStatusServer"="XXX"
    "TargetGroupEnabled"=dword:00000000

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate\AU]
    "NoAUAsDefaultShutdownOption"=dword:00000000
    "NoAUShutdownOption"=dword:00000000
    "AUPowerManagement"=dword:00000000
    "AutoInstallMinorUpdates"=dword:00000001
    "IncludeRecommendedUpdates"=dword:00000001
    "RebootRelaunchTimeoutEnabled"=dword:00000000
    "NoAutoUpdate"=dword:00000000
    "AUOptions"=dword:00000004
    "ScheduledInstallDay"=dword:00000000
    "ScheduledInstallTime"=dword:00000003
    "DetectionFrequencyEnabled"=dword:00000000
    "RebootWarningTimeoutEnabled"=dword:00000001
    "RebootWarningTimeout"=dword:0000000a
    "UseWUServer"=dword:00000001
    "RescheduleWaitTimeEnabled"=dword:00000001
    "RescheduleWaitTime"=dword:0000000a
    "NoAutoRebootWithLoggedOnUsers"=dword:00000000

    All update are good (download OK installation OK without admin rights), except one for Microsoft 2000 (Microsoft VM 816093) when i log with admin right i can see the map on the bottom right but when i log with the normal user i can see nothing. I know there is some problem with this patch with Windows 2000 but in this situation i think this is a problem of rights, but why all update are ok except one ?

    Thank you for your future answers and sorry for my english.

    Bye.

    Here's a blast from the past. The Microsoft Virtual Machine on Windows 2000.

    The short answer to this is that if your Windows 2000 machines have been kept up to date, then this update was a non-issue four years ago.

    The long answer to the KB816093 question can be found from this ancient article that I wrote four years ago last month:

    Why won't update 816093 install?
