Unnecessary services. W2K12 R2 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello experts,

    My question is:

For a file server, what services (to increase your security, disable the standards) you consider necessary for a member server of an AD.

    Thank you !!

  • Hi,
It is hard to say which service is necessary or unnecessary, because it mostly depends on the environment. You could see more details from the following blog:
    https://blogs.technet.microsoft.com/askperf/2008/11/18/disabling-unnecessary-services-a-word-to-the-wise/
And of you want to secure the file server, you could refer to the following tips:
Restrict the Network, folders and Consoles
    Simplify Software Installs
    Audit sensitive directories
Antivirus: scan the server in time or in a schedule
Make sure your server is up to date on all patches
    Best regards,
    Wendy

  • Personally, I don’t suggest to disable system services, if you insist on, please create a recovery point in advance. Then, refer to this link below for some assistance.

Note: Disabling Services may cause system to crash. So do it at your own risk.

Please review the following article “Unnecessary Services check”, The Unnecessary Services SSA check determines whether any potentially unnecessary services are installed on the scanned computer.

    Hope this helps!
