Partial Access to WMI classes

    Question

  • i recently set up a user to have access to run WMI queries...

win32_operatingsystem works fine... and returns all inforrmation

    BUT

    win32_quickfixengineering  returns nothing.

im guesssing it is related to get-hotfix since they return the same data. But there are patches on the server.

    The user is non admin.

I tested with admin creds, and get-hotfix does work.

need to pin point what perms...or modifications ..need to be made for get-hotfix or win32_quickfixengineering to work.

    thanks

    Win32_QuickFixEngineering

The Win32_QuickFixEngineering?WMI class represents a small system-wide update, commonly referred to as a quick-fix engineering (QFE) update, applied to the current operating system.\nStarting with Windows Vista, this class returns only the updates supplied by Component Based Servicing (CBS). These updates are not listed in the registry. Updates supplied by Microsoft Windows Installer (MSI) or the Windows update site (http://update.microsoft.com) are not returned by Win32_QuickFixEngineering.\nWindows Server 2003 and Windows XP: Instances of this class represent updates found in two places in the registry:\nHKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Hotfix\nHKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Updates

    Hope this helps...

  • Hi,

    Thanks for your question.

    Read this:  http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/aa394391(v=vs.85).aspx

and go look on that server, at the reg key branches mentioned.  If they don't have stuff, I would guess the wmi class wouldn't either.

Also, you can refer the link below:
