2008 R2 PDC not syncing with External Time Source

    Question

  • I have scoured through these forums and google and my 2008 R2 PDC still will not sync with an external time source. I am trying to use 0.pool.ntp.org and 1.pool.ntp.org as the 2 external time sources.

I have applied the fix it for me. I have manually configured all the registry entries as well as running the w32tm commands.

This is a physical box and not a hyper-v server.

When I run a strip chart to both servers it replies back saying my clock is about 6 minutes off but it errors when trying to resync to them. When I run the query command it states the following:

    C:\Windows\system32>w32tm /query /status
    Leap Indicator: 0(no warning)
Stratum: 1 (primary reference - syncd by radio clock)
    Precision: -6 (15.625ms per tick)
    Root Delay: 0.0000000s
    Root Dispersion: 10.0000000s
    ReferenceId: 0x4C4F434C (source name:  "LOCL")
Last Successful Sync Time: 3/28/2011 4:17:26 PM
    Source: Local CMOS Clock
    Poll Interval: 6 (64s)

I have unregistered the service and re-registered it. I even tried doing the fix it for me to change it to an internal clock and then ran the fix it for me to use an external time source. I than verified the registry keys. After each change I would restart the service and I have even restarted teh server a few times.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
