Server 2008 R2 Event ID 55

  • Hi All,

    I have a client machine running Server 2008 R2 with 2 scheduled daily backups. As soon as the backup starts to run, it throws Event 55.

    Log Name:      System
    Source:        Ntfs
    Date:          3/9/2012 1:00:18 PM
    Event ID:      55
    Task Category: (2)
    Level:         Error
    Keywords:      Classic
    User:          N/A
    The file system structure on the disk is corrupt and unusable. Please run the chkdsk utility on the volume Scale.
    Event Xml:
    <Event xmlns="">
        <Provider Name="Ntfs" />
        <EventID Qualifiers="49156">55</EventID>
        <TimeCreated SystemTime="2012-03-09T18:00:18.633347200Z" />
        <Security />

    This is a primary production machine, so taking it offline is a giant scheduling issue. To date, we have taken the volume offline to run chkdsk /R on the volume in question. It returned with no errors found, yet every time a backup runs, the error is thrown.

    Any help would be greatly appriciated.

  • Hi,

    What kind of backup software are you using?

    The issue could also be caused by third party program such as mentioned in following article:
