Cannot connect using to Server 2019 using rdp app on Windows 10, iOS or Windows Mobile RRS feed

  • Question

  • I can connect to my server using the desktop app on Windows 10. (I am not using a gateway.)

If I however use the UWP Windows 10 app (from the Store), or the iOS app from the AppStore, or the RDP app from Windows Mobile from the Store I cannot connect from within the LAN nor from the internet and get the following series of events on the server:

The mobile apps work just fine connecting to my Windows 10 PC.

If there is anybody who can shed light on this, I would be very grateful.

Edit: I would like to add that the error message on the client is:

Your password may have expired or the remote pc might not accept blank passwords

1 if you disable NLA on w2019 ,will the problem persist ?
2 can you enter winver in command prompt on server 2019 and look the os version and os version number ?[for example windows 10  enterprise 1809 (os build 17763.316)]
3 if you disable firewall temporarily on w2019 then keep your win10 and w2019 in the same subnet ,will the problem persist ?
4 can you enter gpresult /h c:\\remotefx.html on w2019 and look if there is any domain policy or local policy about remote fx ?
    computer configuration\polices\administrative templates\windows components\remote desktop services\remote desktop session host\remote session environment

  • Thanks for your reply Andy. My answers:

    1. Yes, the problem persists
    2. 1809 (OS Build 17763.592)
    3. Yes, the problem persists
    4. There are no RemoteFX related GPO's

Remember I can rdp fine using mstsc.exe. It's just the UWP and iOS app that won't connect.

  • I have made a Wireshark file of the communications on the client PC, using the UWP Windows Store app. I am not an expert in interpreting the packets, but it seems the client (192.168.1.100) is disconnecting in packet #12.

  • 5. I did see the post you mention. I tried the solutions given already and they did not work in my situation. BTW I don't have a RDS setup, just plain rdp.

    6. This also does not work.

    7. I am not able to install on a new computer at the moment. I use Windows 10 Pro 1903. But the problem is not in Windows 10 RDP-app on PC only, but also in the apps on Windows Mobile and iOS 12.

8 and 9. I use Windows 10 Pro 1903 and am trying to connect to Server 2019 1809.

  • 10. I now installed the Windows Store app on a different Windows 10 PC. Result is the same.

    11. No more than I put in the OP.

    12. No, this server is operational.

    13. I saw this post myself and I already tried removing of this specific machinekey. It did not make any difference unfortunately.

  • Anyone any idea? I cannot manage this server from my iPad. I don't want to use a third party solution.

  • Installed Windows Admin Center on a Windows 10 machine. The rdp function also does not work. It keeps asking credentials. Changed rdp port to default.
