  • Hi,

For Remote Desktop Services you need to use Windows Server Standard or Datacenter.  Essentials is limited to 2 Active connections for administrative purposes only.

  • 25 remote connections is not remote desktop connections, it is a limit for the users logged into active directory.

Essentials includes 25 users, and up to 50 client computers.

No remote desktop licences are included.

  • Hi,

“No CAL required” for Windows Server Essentials, it means no Windows Server CALs. RDS deployment need RDS CALs, it is different product than Windows Server CALs.

Windows Server Essentials, due to license limitation, it supports up to 25 users/50 devices. Within this limitation, it supports RD Gateway server role, combines with with IIS to provide Remote Web Access(RWA) function. Users can establish remote desktop connection to their own working/internal system/computer via RWA without additional RDS CALs.

At same time, as WSE itself, it only supports 2 simultaneous sessions for admin purpose, no matter how many RDS CALs you had installed/configured.

If you want to establish more than 2 simultaneous sessions to internal server system, please add Windows Server Standard or Datacenter version, then, add necessary RDS server roles to deploy complete RDS architecture, at same time, appropriate RDS Per User/Device CALs should be purchased and installed for your RDS deployment.
