smb share for hyper-v failed. failed to join hyper-v to domain. RRS feed

  • This is learning/testing lab environment.

Where I have VMware Vsphere Hypervisor installed.

I have two VMs (one Hyper-V  2012 and another is Windows Server 2012 R2)

Windows Server 2012 R2 is a domain controller+DNS, installed role "File Server", then share a folder to everyone.

When I try to create a new VM in the Hyper-V 2012 by storing the VM in the SMB share, it shows

Failed to create external configuration store at \\w12r2\VMshare General access denied error (0x80070005)

*not sure if this matter, but administrator password is the same for both Hyper-V 2012 and Windows Server 2012 R2

I thought this might due to Hyper-V is in workgroup, while my w12r2 machine is in a domain, hence I tried to join Hyper-V to the domain.  I got the error as below when I try to join using the menu in sconfig.cmd or using net dom command.

The specified domain either does not exist or could not be contacted.

The Domain Controller is running fine, The DNS SRV record also look fine.

running net share in command prompt, also shows that sysvol is being shared.
