Continuing 2008R2 to 2012R2 upgrade issues RRS feed

  • Question

  • I tried uninstalling my graphics driver to upgrade and got different results.  The setuperr.log file contains four entries that repeat dozens of times.  There are:

    2019-04-14 09:00:44, Error      [0x0808fe] MIG    Plugin {0b23c863-4410-4153-8733-a60c9b1990fb}: LoadLibraryEx error (E:\$WINDOWS.~BT\Sources\ReplacementManifests\Microsoft-Windows-TextServicesFramework-Migration\IMJPMIG.DLL) gle=126

These four entrees (eight lines) repeat dozens of times.  Inserted in the middle of the last repetition is:

    2019-04-14 09:01:05, Error      [0x0808fe] MIG    Plugin {65cbf70b-1d78-4cac-8400-9acd65ced94a}: CreateProcess(s) failed. GLE = d

    Then after the cycle completes:

    2019-04-14 09:03:27, Error      [0x0808fe] MIG    Plugin {ee036dc0-f9b7-4d2d-bb94-3dd3102c5804}: BRIDGEMIG: CBrgUnattend::CollectBridgeSettings failed: 0x1, 0
2019-04-14 09:16:19, Error      [0x064228] IBSLIB CollectTrackedVolumePathsCallback:Couldn't find NT path for volume [ID = cd8b12b0-a737-4029-a65e-57d8fbbcc6eb]; will not rewrite its paths[gle=0x00000037]
2019-04-14 09:16:20, Error      [0x06421a] IBSLIB RollbackReinitialize: threw exception.: ArgumentException: Directory "E:\$WINDOWS.~BT\Sources\Rollback" doesn't exists. __cdecl OSRollbackService::CCheckpointImpressario::CCheckpointImpressario(const unsigned short *,class OSRollbackService::CCheckpointSequence *,int)[gle=0x00000003]

Are all those errors really just warnings or is something wacky?  My 2008R2 is SP1 with latest updates. I have one more thing to try, that of NOT updating setup before proceeding, since at least one forum post elsewhere had luck with that.

  • Hi,

From the setuperr.log you provided, we are temporarily unable to analyze the specific reasons. Please upload setupact.log through OneDrive and attach the shared link in your reply for further analysis.

Please understand that from our professional level, we do not provide dump analysis. But from my personal point of view, I still hope to do my best to help you analyze. In addition, if this problem is more urgent for you I still recommend that you open a case to Microsoft for further professional help.

  • I appreciate your willingness to take a deeper look.  I read the two links you provided and did not try either, since I only get to mess with the server on Sundays, since it's the only resource for EHR.

Here are the links to the two files:

    setupact.log:

    https://1drv.ms/u/s!Am1CYTcIUgRbh2pC5-KLz4hpdfC5

    setuperr.log:

    https://1drv.ms/u/s!Am1CYTcIUgRbh2nSJ5trYzgJE0yL

I'm attempting the upgrade logged in as the domain admin.  This is the DC, and the admin has full rights for SQL.  It is the only server, and there are only six W10 clients that are SQL users only.  The server has lots of life in it, but none of the consultants available will do a migration unless there are source and target servers, so a clean install would require re-creating the environment without a reference, which would be a challenge for me, since I'm totally unqualified.

  • Appreciate it.  My only deadline is the EOL of SQL 2008 which is this July.  Our app vendor isn't saying how hard a wall we'll hit and how soon after that EOL date, but they've issued a warning.

  • I put replacement drives into my Raid1 array today, and I successfully clean installed 2012R2, so I think I can rule out hardware.  One thing I did find is that the Win7 RAID drivers that are currently on the 2008R2 version did not suffice for the clean install.  I needed to provide Win8 drivers at the setup prompt.  I don't know enough about how things work to know if this could be an issue.  I've read that proper drivers are built into 2012R2, so probably not?

My old drives are back in and I'll just keep my fingers crossed on you finding something fixable for the upgrade alternative.
