File server permissions

  • Hi everyone

I have a server 2008 R2 in my network that I share my files on it , now I need to set users permission in some way that they could read the files but they couldn't copy or move them

I set read only permission on my files but my users still can copy files .

If any one has any solution for it please let me know

    thank you all

  • you would need some special software that allows a person to view but not copy.

Windows doesn't prevent making copies with read perms.  if you can read, you can copy.

You need to be able to hide the file share from ppl and find or code an app to view that data.

  • There is no way to do that with standard file system ACLs. But you can use Windows Rights Management Services, see details here: Or try some third-party tools.
