Windows Server 2012 r2 migration to Windows Server 2016 new domain

    Question

  • Hi, would like an answer or help if it is possible and if yes how?

We are able to migrate groups and users to new domain using ADMT but I know that it is not possible to migrate the well-known groups such as "Domain Users" domain global group.

Since we still have a file server on the source domain with share permissions using the "Domain Users" group ... they do not have access? any help how can we migrate SID History of this group to target domain so this permission works?

We prefer not to change any permission on the source domain File Server as it is around 8TB and change of permissions will definitely take a while :/

    Any suggestions guys and gals?

    Thanks.

  • Is there a reason for a new domain? The much simpler method is to install the new domain controller in existing domain.
