  • Question

  • Hi..,

    I need clarification on below,

I have purchased Windows server 2008 enterprise edition and i have 20 TS Device CAL and 20 TS USER CAL. These are all in paper licenses only.

    1) I installed windows Server 2008 enterprise edition in my server
    2) Then i installed Terminal services and Ts licensing on same server

How can i activate my Terminal server and TS License server and how to assign TS CALS to server. i dont want to use that 120 grace period.

And my CAL are in  2003 and 2008 combination also USER and Device in mix.

Can i use  both USER and DEVICE CAL is it acceptable by  2008 server?

Please give me the step by step details for achieve the above.

    Thanks in Advance,
    Mahendran

  • You will need to upgrade your 2003 CAL's to 2008.

A terminal server can only hand out one sort of license either per user or per device.  this is set by the server.  A TS license server can hand out both per device and per user but what is handed out is determined by the license mode of the terminal server.  You should be able call the MSClearinghouse to switch your licenses so they are all the same if you need to.  You just need to determine whether you want all Per User or Per Device.

Check under Action on the menu of the TS licensing snap-in and you can activate and install licenses through there.  It's very simple.
