Error on Activating Office 2010 KMS Activation RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello All..........I am installing Office 2010 KMS Key, but facing following error:

I would appreciate if someone could guide on the error.

FYI, I am using WIndows Server 2012 R2 as KMS Host.  Once I run the script for Office KMS Key, it throws this error even before installing the key.

So, in conclusion, any organization is limited to a possible of minimum 6 Installations and Activations.  Please, correct me if I am wrong.  THanks.

Yes, you can use a KMShost product key on only 6 hosts, and each host can only be activated 10 times: refer https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn502528.aspx error 0xC004C008

  • Hi Technet junkie,

Have you install the Key management service host?

  • Hi Junkie,

Have you installed Microsoft Office 2010 KMS Host License Pack?

    Here is the link:

  • Thanks for the reply.

I have gone through with it using the Volume License Pack and getting following error:

“The activation server reported that the product key exceeded its unlock limit”

Can this really happen on a KMS Key?

  • Once, the correct key was provided, it activated.

  • But, again can this to happen to a KMS Host key?  Is not this the purpose of KMS Host key to never expire? and activate as many clients as it can?

  • Hi Technet Junkie,

As Don posted in your other post: All product keys which are themselves activated via MSFT webservice, have a "limit", and can be exhausted, or blocked by MSFT. This includes KMShost keys.

As per the documentation, a KMShost product key itself can only be activated a limited number of times. But once the KMShost feature is activated, that KMShost can issue unlimited activations to KMSclients.

    Best Regards,

    Leo

  • Thanks for the reply.

Can you share what is the default limit of a KMS Host Key?

  • Hi Technet Junkie,

Each KMS key can be installed on up to six KMS hosts, which can be physical computers or virtual machines.

I am still getting my head around the 6 Installation and 10 Activations.  Why disproportionate?

    I have no idea.

[but why does it matter? are you really likely to need to create 60 KMShosts?]

You can always contact MSFT to get another KMShost key, if you need to do that.
