  •  Hi,

I'm currently on a 2008 R2 system, but I think this local builtin group
    has been around since 2008:

    Group Name: Event Log Readers
Description: Members of this group can read event logs from local machine

There are multiple ways to add/view members, but I usually add members
by going to start -> search, type compmgmt.msc, press enter. Then expand
    "Local Users and Groups"\Groups

  • Hi,

Thank you for your post here.

Yes, the Event Log Readers group is also available in Windows Server 2008. If you need fine-grained customized permission on different Event log catalog, you may write the SDDL (Security Descriptor Definition Language) in the registry value Isolation to achieve Event log security permission controls.
