The machine needs to be rebooted. The user is not authorized to reboot the machine.

All of which has nothing to do with why the client isn't showing up in the WSUS console.

First we have to establish that this client is, in fact, a WSUS Client!

    Please do the following:

    1. Record the system time on this client system.
    2. Restart the Windows Update service on this computer.
    3. Wait 10 minutes.
    4. Post ALL of the entries from the WindowsUpdate.log ==UNEDITED== starting at the time recorded in Step #1.

  • Hi,

Your GPO settings disable windows update somewhere. Maybe in the user config or in the Machine config.

Make sure that windows updates is not disabled.

  • Hey Kurt,

That would explain it if all the machines in that OU weren't getting connecting but this case is only some of the machines in that OU are showing up.  I'm going to check that out anyways to see if it does help though.  Thanks

  •

There might have been a GPO applied in the past which was now removed but the settings remained ?

have a look at this key : HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\WindowsUpdate

Maybe you can see something there on the machine & compare to one that works.

  • Some of my computers are not showing up in WSUS Console.  Here is the Windowupdate.log file:

This logfile appears edited. Certainly there are triplicate entries for every line, which is highly abnormal.

Most liikely this client is not a WSUS cleint. The fact that it is in a Reboot Pending state tells us that it just installed updates from SOMEWHERE. If it doesn't appear in your WSUS console, then it most likely got them from AU or WU/MU.

Posting an UNEDITED logfile will help tremendously in giving useful advice.

Now if I do a Gpupdate /force this makes them "visible" but they then don't report anything.

If I try to post the whole log then IE 9 and Chrome crash.
