Driver installation for USB hub fails (Error 0xe0000228, no compatible devices) RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi All !

I just connected a new USB 2.0 hub and the "found new hardware wizard" appears ... but the installation fails [see subject and log at the end].

I have no idea where to look for the problem. I am using "Windows Server 2003 R2" [x64, en, all fixes]. All other USB devices are working properly.

I looked in the internet [the half day now!!], but found no solution. The hub is working fine at other computers and even no other hub works here! I re-applied SP2 with no effect. So far I know, Windows has a default driver for such devices [and I had never seen such a problem before].

Hope, someone can shed some light on this, I need more ports.

    Thanks so far and
    best regards,

    scamb

  • Hi Scamb,

Do you have any other Windows 2003 R2 SP2 systems which the USB hub works fine?

If so, uninstall the hub displayed in Device Manager and unplug it. Then copy all files start with "usb" in c:\Windows\System32\INF and c:\Windows\system32\Drivers folder to the computer in issue to replace the orignial files.

Then plug-in the USB hub to see if it can be installed.
