Restarting Computer in Task Sequence causes TS to Fail RRS feed

  • Question

  • Adding the "Restart Computer" to my task sequence causes the TS to stop working after the restart. Are there any general fixes for this?

This is a software deployment I am attempting to do.

  • it would not do any harm adding reboot to the task sequence but did you check the logs smsts.log to identify the cause for the TS failure ? where are you adding the reboot in TS (before or after?)  ?

  • I am installing software that also has some prerequisites. I'm installing the prerequisites, then initiating the reboot, and then the installing the main software. I know that I have to do the reboot because I had to when I tried the manual install of the software.

In smsts.log, the only thing that I see that looks potentially problematic is something saying that there was a failure to get linked token information.

  • did you check the application logs appenforce.log or execmgr.log if any issues with application ? does it happen on all devices or just random ? something to be corrected at application level/command line.

  • Hi,

    Tried to disable UAC:
    reg.exe ADD HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System /v EnableLUA /t REG_DWORD /d 0 /f
And reenable it at the end of the task sequence:
    reg.exe ADD HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System /v EnableLUA /t REG_DWORD /d 1 /f
