DNS zone fails to transfer

    Question

  • Hi,

Within the last 14 days, zone transfer of one of our domains keeps failing on our AUS DCs (we are based in uk)

Event Viewer shows error 6534 - failed transfer of zone apple.example.com and subdomain pear.apple.examplec.com

The DNS server at (uk root server ip address) aborted or failed to complete transfer of the zone.

I have checked with our firewall team and they have confirmed AD and DNS ports are open with no recent changes.

Any ideas appreciated? Thanks in advance (Environment = Win2012)

(I tried altering the replication scope from - "all domain controllers in this domain" to "all dns servers running on domain controllers in the forest" which seemed to clear the event log errors but my test record didnt replicate)

  • Hi,

Could you ping the primary DNS server?

What is the status of the zone transfer? You can choose that allow zone transfers only to servers listed on the Name Servers tab.

Check the Name servers list of the secondary zone.

    Best regards,

    Travis
