Activate Windows 7 with Server 2012 KMS Key? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

When we setup KMS we used a Server 2008 R2 key and that activates both Server 2008 R2 and Windows 7. Works a treat.

I was wondering if i change the key to Windows Server 2012 will it activate server 2012, 2008 R2, Windows 8 & Windows 7 Please?

    Thanks

  • Hi,

Every KMS host key is associated with a group of Windows editions. If the KMS host key for Windows Server 2012 or Windows 8 NOT included Windows Server 2008 R2 or Windows 7, they will be not be activated.

See Table 5 in the "Determine Product Key Needs" section of the Volume Activation Planning Guide (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd878528.aspx#E3IAC)

Yes, but if your KMShost is running WindowsServer2008R2 OS, you must first apply SP1 for WS2008R2 and then apply hotfix http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2757817
