Which Drive is \Device\Ide\IdePort0

    Question

  • Server 2008R2. Getting Event ID 9, source atapi, "The device, \Device\Ide\IdePort0, did not respond within the timeout period."

Even researching, I haven't been able to determine which device this refers to.

Server has 4 x SATA hard drives, 1 x PATA hard drive, 1 x PATA DVD optical drive. Which one is it??

Disk Management Disk 0 is the PATA HD, but I cant count on a correlation here.

In the registry they are all referenced as Scsi    eg

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\HARDWARE\DEVICEMAP\Scsi\Scsi Port 0\Scsi Bus 0\Target Id 0\Logical Unit Id 0

is the optical drive  HL-DT-ST DVDRRW GWA-4161B

    Thanks.

  • It'd really help if the device manager details could show the drive serial number.  It's often a serious hassle trying to correctly map which device position the OS sees against how the BIOS may have set them up.  But nothing clarifies the question like knowing the drive serial number, presuming that you can see it on the drive itself.  Various vendor tools can show this info, even when run from inside Windows (not just from a boot CD).  So the information CAN be seen.  It'd be really nice to have the device manager properties be able to show this.
