Can I shrink a static VHD?

  • I have a 300GB static VHD that has Server 2008 R2 and a BlackBerry Enterprise Server.  Can I shrink the size of the VHD and preserve the server and the BES?  Thanks.

  • It's fixed.  Sorry I called it static thinking that meant the same.

  • To shrink the VHD, you must first shrink the volume inside the OS. FOr that, Go to Server Manager, Storage, Disk Management. Right click the Volume to shrink, the click Shrink. Now choose the Nex size of the Volume. After the Shrink Process, use VHDResizer to shrink the VHD.

    - The VHD must be not used when Shrinking it. (Shutdown the VM)

    - For maximum recovered size when shrinking the volume, defrag your volume before.
