Server 2012 R2 Essentials & Antivirus RRS feed

  • Question

  • I'm running Server 2012 R2 Essentials as a virtual machine in Hyper-V. The host is Server 2012 R2. Installing System Center Endpoint Protection works fine on the host, but not on the guest (installer says current OS not supported). Can anyone tell me why?

  • Hi,

According to blog (link below), SCEP can be installed on Windows server 2012 standard/Datacenter, Windows Server 2012 Essentials is not included/supported:

  • I don't quite follow... The present version of Essentials is just an "add on" to Windows Server 2012 R2, meaning it's still a standard version of the OS. Therefore it should be supported, right?

  • Hi,

In general, most application/software that applied to Windows Server 2012/2012 R2 is also compatible with Essentials. As Microsoft document, Essentials will be listed if it is applied to.

There are 3rd party software/hardware that can provide protection for Essentials server. Such as Kapsersky, Trend.

Please Note: The third-party product discussed here is manufactured by a company that is independent of Microsoft. We make no warranty, implied or otherwise, regarding this product's performance or reliability.

  • Thanks Eve!

Any ideas why SCEP won't run on Windows Server 2012 R2 Essentials?

  • I thought just hit me... I read somewhere that SCEP is not actually virtualization aware. Could it be because of Hyper-V that it won't install?
