Well, i have a question about server 2012 foundation and rds.. i heard that if we wanna use rds on server 2012 foundation we should buy 2 servers and we have toconfiguration it as a domain. And for 2012 standard we should use hyper v as a second server and we will use this virtual server for remote desktop...do you have anybidea about this?thanks in advance..Tuesday, January 8, 2013 9:00 PM

Windows Server 2012 Foundation operating system with RDS running can be a member of a workgroup or, if joined to a domain, joined at the root of the forest as a domain controller. It doesn't require to be a domain network to run RDS. If you want to use Hyper-V, it must be stardard or Data center.

Let's make it clear. Quoted it from another post:
We would like suggest you run the Server Foundation 2012 RDS in domain. Even you could install RDS role on a workgroup Server Foundation 2012, but Server Foundation 2012 RDS is designed to work in domain.
The reason for this are 1) the legacy Remote Desktop manage tools, including Remote Desktop Services Manager, Remote Desktop Session Host Configuration, and the Connection Manager interface for configuring Connection Broker have been replaced in Windows Server Foundation 2012 with the RDMS administration console. Remote Desktop Management server needs to work in domain.
2) Collections is designed to manager virtual machine-based or session-based desktop in Windows Server Foundation 2012, you could only run collections in domain environment.
3) RD Connection Broker needs to work in domain.
4) Most of the old PowerShell commands and GUI programs that would have allowed you to configure/manage a standalone RDSH server have been removed.

It's all good, but what is the point of RD without management, which will work 120 days, because licensing for RDSH can't be configured? Plus you can't join Foundation to existing domain and if it's only one server in tiny company (what is the point of Foundation server itself) then it become impossible to make it.Wednesday, January 23, 2013 8:26 AM
