SBS 2008 Standard with 2 Domain Controllers

    Question

  • I was hoping I could get some clarification of having an 2008 SBS standard box with a second domain controller running on the same network.  What we are looking to do is buy one copy of SBS 2008 Standard and buy one copy of server 2008 standard and have the server 2008 standard installation serve as a second domain controller if the SBS we to be down.

I am trying to separate myth from reality here and was hoping someone had some insight into this question. From one side I hear that you can only have one DC in and SBS environment.  The other side I hear that you can have one SBS, but have a second DC if it is standard or enterprise server edition.

PS, Does this procedure require SBS 2008 Premium?

  • You can have a second DC, but you can't have a second SBS Server.  Here's a good dissection of the issue:
