Will permissions stay if I move a SANs volume from a Windows 2008 R2 Server to a Windows 2012 R2 Server? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi All....

I currently have a Windows 2008 R2 server with an attached SANs volume that has a bunch of shares on it. The Windows 2008 R2 server is a member server in our domain. I've just spun up a Windows 2012 R2 server that is also a member server. I'd like to move the SANs volume attached to the Windows 2008 R2 to the Windows 2012 R2 server by detaching it from the Windows 2008 and then just attaching it to the Win 2012. Will the permissions hold if I do that?

    Thanks... Frank

  • Was hoping I could get an answer to this. If I attached the SANs volume to the 2012 R2 server, will the shares and permissions stay?

    Thanks... Frank

  • If both hosts are members of the same domain and the shares are configured the same, permissions will remain.
