Can't move application to second screen RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi Guys,

I've seen similar questions to this but none seemed to have been resolved satisfactorily.

I have several Remote Apps on a win2k8 TS which work fine except I can't move any to my second screen at all. I can drag it to the edge of the primary screen and then when the app should move onto the second screen it appears at the opposite side of the primary. This happens on both Vista SP2 and XP SP3 machines, both are running RDP 6.1 (at least I'm assuming that; it says RDP 6.1 supported but Shell and Control versions are 6.0.6002)

I want to move the program window (non maximised) to the second screen.

So my question is; Any answers for this type of question are referred to the /span switch. I don't want to span the program across both screens, I simply want it to be displayed on the second screen. Is /span required for moving a program to a second screen? I have tested this with span on and off for all apps and it has no effect (Outlook, Excel, and several LOB apps). I have tried various configurations of dual screens, ensuring same size/res, making left monitor primary etc and it has had zero effect.

If I start a full TS session I can move it to the second screen no dramas - what's the difference?!?!?

    Any help muhc appreciated.

  • Hi Rong,

Not sure how I can check the resolution of a RemoteApp?

Also, I retested and it looks like it does work so long as left monitor is primary, the differing resolutions between monitors don't seem to be an issue.

    Cheers

  • Hi,

I would suggest you take a look at this tool:

    www.ishadow.com

a tool called VDM. It is the best tool on the market when it comes to the task you described.
Your best bid is to either use the VDM from the link above or to upgrade to Windows 2008 R2
and Windows 7 (or RDP 7 when available) which offers certain features of multi monitor.

  • /span switch should allow you drag the app window to the other monitor as long as it is not maximized.  Could you check resolution of the remote app session please? (It should be a big rectangle which covers both monitors)

    Thanks

  • The fix: Edit the RDP file in notepad, add the line below to the file and save it. If there's already a line for "use multimon", change the value to 1. Note the user's RDP session will have to be logged off form the server for the change to take effect.

    use multimon:i:1
