OID for custom attributes in User object

Hi All,
I need to add custom attributes to user object in AD.I can do that by editing the schema.My problem is with selecting the OID(Unique X500 Object ID) for the attribute.I'm not sure what OID can I select, as OID clash can cause undesired effects on applications.
I saw the in forums that I can register with Microsoft to get a free OID, but the link is broken.

Any Idea about this?
