Powershell giving error when load Active Directory modules

    Question

  • Went to install the prereqs for Exchange 2010 mailbox server via Powershell and when it launches it's giving an error about

WARNING: Error initializing default drive: 'Unable to find a default server with Active Directory Web Services running.'

Now I didn't see that at all when I did our CAS/HUB servers but now those same servers are throwing the error.

We're running 2008 DFL and FFL.  Anyone seen this behaviour before?

  • Thanks I saw that when I did some searching.  But I'm trying to figure out what's changed as I don't recall that error before.
Is it required for Exchange 2010 EMC/EMS to work correctly?
It's required for active directory module and for manage exchange via powershell.

  • If this was working before, it's more likely that the service is installed on one of your DCs, but it's not running.  If your DCs are R2 boxes the service was probably installed already.
